Labor Day weekend is the whole year in one weekend

Clinton is a Vermillion County town of about 4,790 people on the Wabash River, and for three days every Labor Day weekend it stops being that. The Little Italy Festival draws between 60,000 and 80,000 visitors, kicks off Friday with what is billed as the second largest parade in Indiana, and centers on a Main Stage down on Water Street.

Sixty thousand people in a town of under five thousand is a sanitation problem with a very specific shape. It is concentrated: the crowd is downtown, on pavement, in a defined footprint, over three days. That is a different job from the Covered Bridge Festival up in Parke County, where two million people disperse across an entire county for ten days. Clinton needs density, hard-surface placement and daily service on a tight footprint, not a wide-scattered route.

If you are a vendor, an organizer or a church or business hosting anything adjacent to the festival, book early. Not as early as Parke County's October, but a Labor Day booking made in August is a booking made too late.

Coal-era housing and what that means underground

Clinton grew fast in the early twentieth century around coal, and that boom is still visible in the housing stock. A town whose growth was concentrated in one era tends to have infrastructure concentrated in one era too, and out here the practical consequence is older drain lines: clay tile and cast iron rather than modern PVC.

Older pipe fails in two predictable ways, and both are things we get called for. Joints in clay tile separate slightly over decades and tree roots find them, especially where mature trees line the older streets. And cast iron scales on the inside, narrowing the bore until it catches everything that passes. Neither of those is fixed by a cable, which bores a hole through the middle and leaves the walls coated. Both respond well to jetting, which scours the pipe wall back toward its original inside diameter.

Out past the town limits, rural Vermillion County properties run on private septic systems the same as the rest of our territory, and those are on the same three-to-five-year interval as anywhere else.

Coverage around Clinton

Clinton (ZIP 47842) and the rural routes through southern Vermillion County, including the ground toward Universal, Fairview Park and St. Bernice. The Wabash River is the eastern edge; we cross it regularly.

On the same run: Terre Haute about twenty minutes south, plus Cayuga and Dana in northern Vermillion County as part of our regular coverage.

Why book us for festival weekend

Because we hold over a hundred units in Bloomingdale, about thirty minutes away, which means a large Clinton order does not get filled by borrowing inventory from somebody else. And because our October is Covered Bridge Festival, which is ten straight days of daily servicing at scale. A three-day Labor Day festival is a job we are already built for.
